Marry me mice

I have the great joy of living in San Francisco, the home of Paxton Gate. The fabulous store that carries pots for plants that I can't say no to and even better...taxidermy mice that wear costumes and sometimes come on fishing line with angelic yellow ribbons tied to their tiny white and lifeless bodies.
What this says about me seems very open to interpretation but I am simply just a sucker for cute in even the most unique forms.

Monster drawing Rally

Last night I attended the Monster drawing Rally at the Verdi club in San Francisco. I hear they have swing dancing some evenings and I am thinking of checking that out too. I will keep you all posted. Watch your toes... I might be wild on swing floor!
Anyway, the Southern Exposure's 9th Annual Monster Drawing Rally is a live drawing event and fundraiser.

I'm sorry I didn't know of this sooner... but I would recommend going next year if you are in the area. It's for a good cause and just a nice and inspiring evening!

Oh Edward

I have been a fan of Edward Gorey since my introduction to the dark children's book the Gashlycrumb Tinies when a copy was given to me by a family friend. Edward Gorey is one of my favorite illustrators of all time. Some of you may have recognized his voice from the opening titles of the PBS program Mystery or his brilliant illustrations for Dracula.
I am so fascinated by him that I could go on and on about his life as a Harvard student studying French to his late home on Cape Cod that I have always wanted to visit.
If you have never seen his work I suggest you check out one of the 100 books he wrote and illustrated. I know I have many that I still need to explore! A couple of months ago I came across this one...

"The Colony Club" appreciation

Women's clubs hold a special place in our hearts. Stacy & I moved into a small house that was once owned by the Ebell Women's Club of Long Beach about 5 years ago. Stacy still resides in the home that is the keeper of my most treasured times and houses our gems. We too aspire to be modern day ladies that lunch, wear dresses at home, and congregate to celebrate each other. 

I have recently discovered an artist, Rachel Kaye, whom shares our inspiration. Her present exhibit, "The Colony" was inspired by New York's most prestigious private women's club founded in 1903 by socialite & suffragist Florence Jaffray Harriman. Rachel Kaye's art has sparked my new interest in "The Colony Club"-

Meows it Going?

 I realize I may not be the first to introduce you all to one of Japan's finest ideas... but frankly, I can't get enough of them!

I once had an issue of VICE magazine on my coffee table for months. For those who didn't have the pleasure of exploring the dog eared pages, it was a coaster of sorts. For the rest of us, it was a lookbook of Feline Fashion. I later turned each lovely photo into small Valentine's. It was especially tough to part with the Victorian kitty. Enjoy these at the expense of something small and furry.xo-ki
